General description
Pancreatic beta cells (β cells) are located in pancreatic islets and are responsible for insulin synthesis and secretion, which is vital for regulating levels of glucose in the blood. In Type 1 diabetes patients, beta-cell mass and function are diminished, leading to insufficient insulin secretion and hyperglycemia. The ability to directly ascertain pancreatic β cell mass would provide important information on disease status and progression.BioTracker Red PiF Pancreatic Beta Cell Live Cell Dye is a multimodal pancreatic β cell probe PiF for both fluorescence and for (positron emission tomography) applications. By simple tail vein injection, PiF stains pancreatic β cells specifically and allows intraoperative fluorescent imaging of pancreatic islets (1).
