General description
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is an aminopolycarboxylic acid (APCAs). It serves as a metal chelating agent. EDTA is an anticoagulant, which prevents blood clotting by chelating calcium from the blood. EDTA-mediated platelet aggregation leads to pseudothrombocytopenia.. It is used to treat poisoning caused by heavy metals such as mercury and lead.
Application
0.5M EDTA has been used as a constituent of Dulbecco′s phosphateâ€buffered saline (DPBS) for resuspension of trypsinized Human embryonic kidney 293T (HEK293T) cells in ataxinâ€1 aggregation kinetics assay. It may also be used in chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assays.
