Arachidonyl ethanolamide (AEA) is an endogenous lipid neurotransmitter with cannabinergic activity. It binds to both the central cannabinoid (CB1) and peripheral cannabinoid (CB2) receptors. Fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) is the enzyme responsible for hydrolysis and inactivation of AEA.
