Cell Line Description
Derived from normal kidneys of an adult male toad (Xenopus laevis). A6 cells support the replication of Granoff′s frog viruses but not the Lucke inclusion-tumour associated virus.

Culture Medium
NCTC 109 + 15% Distilled H2O + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
Subculture Routine
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:2 to 1:3 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 27-28°C.
