Upon activation with UV-Light (∼350nm), the psoralen group reacts with thymine- and other pyrimidine-containing bases to form a covalent bond. The hydrophilicpolyethylene glycol (PEG) spacer arm imparts water solubility that is transferred to the biotinylated molecule, thus reducing aggregation of labeled proteins stored in solution.
