General description
Autophagy-related protein 13 (Atg13) is mapped to human chromosome 11p11.2. It comprises of HORMA domain (Hop1, Rev7 and MAD2).
Specificity
Anti-Atg13 recognizes human, mouse, and rat Atg13.
Application
Anti-ATG13 antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunoblotting and immunofluorescence microscopy.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Autophagy-related protein 13 (Atg13) is essential for autophagosome formation in mammalian cells. Atg13 forms a stable complex with ULK1 (Unc-51 Like Autophagy Activating Kinase 1) and FAK family-interacting protein of 200 kDa (FIP200). Mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) interacts with this complex in a nutrient dependent manner and phosphorylates Atg13 and ULK1, suggesting that mTOR regulates autophagy through the ULK1-Atg13-FIP200 complex.
Physical form
Solution in 0.01 M phosÂÂphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.
Storage and Stability
Store at –20 °C. For continuous use, store at 2–8 °C for up to one month. For extended storage, freeze in working aliquots at –20 °C. Repeated freezing and thawing, or storage in “frost-free†freezers, is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use. Working dilutions should be discarded if not used within 12 hours.
