General description
Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan 4 (CSPG4) is commonly known as Melanoma chondroitin sulphate proteoglycan (MCSP). MCSP is a transmembrane protein. MCSP is lower in normal melanocytes. In human chromosome, the gene CSPG4 is localized on 15q24.2.
Immunogen
Synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the C terminal of human chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan 4
Biochem/physiol Actions
Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan 4 (CSPG4) is a cell surface antigen, expressed in most human melanoma and is crucial for tumour progression and invasion. MCSP activates cell division control protein 42 homolog (Cdc42) and Cdc42-associated tyrosine kinase-1 (Ack-1) to form complex, which signals and leads to melanoma progression and metastasis. The complex of MCSP with membrane-type 3 matrix metalloproteinase (MT3-MMP) signals melanoma invasion and proteolysis. MCSP is associated with angiogenesis dependent processes like tumor growth and healing of wound. MCSP plays a key role in regulating chondrosarcoma and provides resistance to chemotherapy. CSPG4 is a prognostic marker for glioblastoma.
