General description
Fructose-1, 6-bisphosphatase 1 (FBPase 1), also known as D-fructose-1, 6-bisphosphate 1-phosphohydrolase 1, and encoded by the gene name FBP1 and FBP, belongs to the FBPase class 1 family. FBPase 1 is a gluconeogenesis regulatory enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of fructose 1,6-bisphosphate to fructose 6-phosphate in the presence of divalent cations; thus, acting as a rate-limiting enzyme in gluconeogenesis. FBPase 1 has been demonstrated to play a role in regulating glucose sensing and insulin secretion of pancreatic beta-cells. FBPase 1 may be involved in modulating glycerol gluconeogenesis in liver. FBPase 1 has been studied as an important regulator of appetite and adiposity. Increased expression of FBPase 1 in liver, after nutrient excess, increases circulating satiety hormones and reduces appetite-stimulating neuropeptides. Therefore, FBPase 1 may be an important target that provides a feedback mechanism to limit weight gain. FBPase 1 is expressed mainly in pancreatic islets.
Immunogen
