General description
The presence of HBsAg, a protein on the surface of HSV, indicates that a person is infectious. Hepatitis B virus surface antigen is tested for in the differential diagnosis of hepatitis and can be detected in high levels in serum during acute or chronic HBV infection. Early in the infection, this antigen may not be present and it may be undetectable later in the infection as it is being cleared by the host.
