General description
A cell-permeable dipeptide that reversibly blocks the homodimerization of aminoimidazole carboxamide ribonucleotide transformylase/inosine nomophosphate cyclohydrolase (ATIC) and inhibits its activity (Ki = 691 nM, Kd = 240 nM). AITC is a bifunctional enzyme that catalyzes the last two steps of de novo purine biosynthesis. Increases the intracellular levels of AICAR leading to the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). Shown to reduce cell viability in a dose-dependent manner. Exhibits a longer half-life and sustained AMPK activation (~ 24 hours) compared to AICA-riboside (Cat. No. 123040).
