This medium is recommended for the isolation and cultivation of Streptococcus species from clinical and nonclinical specimens. The media can be supplemented with sterile defibrinated blood to prepare blood agar. For best results, use light inoculum and incubate anaerobically for enhancement in haemolytic reaction. Application: Recommended For Selective Isolation & Cultivation of Staphylococcus & Streptococcus SPEcies From Mixed Bacterial Flora Appearance of powder: Light yellow colored, may have slightly greeenish tinge, homogeneous, free flowing powder Gelling: Firm, comparable with 1.5% Agar gel Color and Clarity Basal medium: yields yellow colored, slightly opalescent gel. Addition of 5% v/v sterile defibrinated blood yields cherry red opaque gel which darkens on standing Reaction of 3.32% w/v aqueous solution is pH 7.2 ± 0.2 at 25°C Cultural characteristics observed after an incubation at 35-37°C for 18-48 hours
