Benzoic acid, 4-isocyanato-ethylene glycol bis lactic acid ester is a highly reactive absorbable isocyanate. The biodegradable linkage in this monomer is derived from biocompatible groups. This novel monomer enables the synthesis of biodegradable polyurethanes that possess comparable mechanical properties with commercially available medical grade polyurethanes.
