(+)-Butaclamol hydrochloride is a D2DR inhibitor. Studies on rat striatal Homovanillic acid concentrations indicate that (+)-Butaclamol hydrochloride increases the concentration of this compound, via D2DR antagonism. In addition, these studies concluded that (+)-Butaclamol hydrochloride is 2 to 4 times more active than its enantiomer at inhibiting the D2DR. Alternate studies indicate that (+)-Butaclamol hydrochloride is more effective in the presence of GDP. Furthermore, it is suggested that (+)-Butaclamol hydrochloride acts as an inverse agonist of the D2DR by stabilizing the uncoupled form of the receptor.
