It is used to study mechanisms of anti-oxidation related to hydrogen peroxide induced oxidative stress and DNA damage. Cafestol acts as a GST(glutathione S-transferase) inducer. Exhibits chemoprotective activity, reducing the genotoxicity of several carcinogens. Cafestol is a natural product isolated from the unsaponifiable fraction of petroleum ether extract of coffee beans.
