Cell Line Origin
Human cervix carcinoma
Cell Line Description
Originally derived from normal amniotic tissue. Have been used and studied extensively including virus susceptibility, tumorigenicity and morphology. Contains HeLa marker chromosomes and exhibits type A G6PD. This cell line was found to be indistinguishable from HeLa by STR PCR DNA profiling. Therefore, the cell line should be considered as derived from HeLa. The cells are capable of growth in a variety of media supplemented with sera from several species. Ethnicity: Black.
Application
Virus, tumourigenicity and chromosome studies
Culture Medium
EMEM + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
Subculture Routine
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:5 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin; 5% CO2; 37°C.
