Rat Wistar-Furth pituitary tumour
Cell Line Description
Derived from pituitary gland of Wistar-Furth rats. The cells secrete growth hormone at a rate of 1μg/ml cell protein/day. Re-inoculation of cloned cells back to Wistar-Furth rats results in a marked increase in body weight and stimulation of linear growth in both intact and hypophysectomized animals independent of rat tumour size.

Subculture Routine
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:2 to 1:3 i.e. seeding at 3-5x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin; 5% CO2; 37°C. These cells only semi-attach and may return to suspension during transit. If this has occurred on receipt of the cells pellet cells b
