Cell Line Origin
Hamster Chinese ovary transfected with Lymnaea receptor GRL101
Cell Line Description
Cell line containing the receptor protein GRL101. The cDNA from the CNS of the mollusc Lymnaea stagnalis encoding a putative receptor has been isolated and analysed. The first repeat of DNA displays a high sequence similarity to the extracellular binding of the low density protein receptor, which binds and internalises cholesterol containing apolipoproteins. The MRNI receptor is predominantly expressed in a small number of neurons within the CNS and to a lesser extent in the heart. Contains a mixed culture of approximately 20 transfected clones.
Application
Studies in the newly characterised members of a putative class of G protein - linked receptors that directly transduce signals carried by large extracellular (lipo)protein (complexes) into neural events.
Culture Medium
DMEM + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
Subculture Routine
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2 - 4 x 10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2, 37°C.
