Mammalian homologs of this compound are neuromedin B and GRP. Bombesin exhibits antiepileptic/anticonvulsant potential, potentiating GABA release by increasing extracellular Ca2+ influx and inducing membrane depolarization through the inhibition of inwardly rectifying (hERG) K+ channels.
