Cell Line Origin
Human embryo lung
Cell Line Description
Derived from embryonic lung tissue of a male in 1965. It is one of the few human diploid lines to have type A glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. Cells have a limited lifespan of 20 serial subcultures from tissue of origin. Ethnicity: Black.
Application
HEL 299 has been used to study the antiviral properties of AIC246, a novel anti-human cytomegalovirus compound. It has also been used to study the role of SUMO ligase protein inhibitor of activated STAT1 (PIAS1) in the intrinsic antiviral immune response to herpes simplex virus.
