Human Caucasian erythroleukaemia
Cell Line Description
Derived from 30 year old male Caucasian. Expresses ß-2 microglobulin and Ia antigen. Used in the study of erythroid cell differentiation and globin gene expression. Analogous to Friend cell leukaemia in mice. K-562 has similar characteristics.

Culture Medium
RPMI 1640 + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
Subculture Routine
Maintain cultures between 3-9x100,000 cells/ml; 5% CO2; 37°C. Cell growth can be very slow on resuscitation. Stand the culture flask up overnight using 20% FBS.
