Cell Line Origin
Rat hepatoma Hybrid [H5xFao]
Cell Line Description
HF1 is a clone of hybrid cells resulting from the fusion of H5 and Fao. Expression of the majority of hepatic functions are extinguished. The cells contain a number of chromosomes corresponding to the sum of the parental numbers. HF1 variant which lacks the complete set of tissue-specific functions, appears to be a good candidate for regulatory mutants which control the orderly temporal expression of tissue specific functions during development.
Application
Analysis of gene expression by molecular techniques.
Culture Medium
Coon′s modified Ham′s F12 (or Kaign′s modified Ham′s F12 + 45mg/L ascorbic acid + 18mg/L inositol) + 2mM Glutamine + 5% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
Subculture Routine
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:5 to 1:10 i.e. seeding at 9x1,000 to 2x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C.
