General description
300 units/mg minimum, 50,000 units/vial. Suitable for biochemistry grade.
Specifications:Activity: 300NF U/mg min
Intended for laboratory and manufacturing use only. Not for drug, food, or household use.
Application
Hyaluronidase has been used:
- to enzymatically remove extra-cellular matrix (ECM) to assess the lateral diffusion of the synaptic a-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole propionic acid receptor (AMPAR)
- to study the effects of 4-methylumbelliferone (4MU)/ hyaluronidase (HLX)-mediated depletion of the CD44/hyaluronan complex on trastuzumab binding in JIMT1 breast cancer xenografts
- as a component of Hank′s balanced salt solution (HBSS) medium to digest fetal intestine tissue
Biochem/physiol Actions
Hyaluronidase is an endoglycosidase that degrades hyaluronic acid (HA), a component of the extracellular matrix. It is used to enhance drug diffusion and reverse the effects of HA filler injections. Hyaluronidases dissolve the subcutaneous nodules and can correct excessive quantities of injected filler. It eliminates the cumulus-corona-oocyte complex formed during intracytoplasmic sperm injection. Hyaluronidase inhibits tissue damage after the extravasation of several substances. It is used for reducing edema treating vitreous hemorrhage.
Unit Definition
One unit is based on the change in absorbency (turbidity) at 540 nm of an internal standard assayed concurrently with each lot. Internal standard replaces USP/NF reference no longer available.
Physical form
Dialyzed, lyophilized powder, not less than300 units per mg (dry weight).
