General description
An immunoglobulin has two heavy chain and two light chain connected by disulfide bond. It is a glycoprotein. Rat has five immunoglobulin classes- IgM, IgG, IgA, IgD and IgGE. Immunoglobulin G (IgG) is a major class of immunoglobulin. IgG has four subclasses- IgG1, IgG2a, IgG2b and IgG2c.
IgG antibody subtype is the most abundant serum immunoglobulins of the immune system. It is secreted by B cells and is found in blood and extracellular fluids and provides protection from infections caused by bacteria, fungi and viruses. Maternal IgG is transferred to fetus through the placenta that is vital for immune defence of the neonate against infections
IgG2a, λ from murine myeloma specifically recognizes mouse IgG2a. Specificity of the mouse IgG2a, λ is determined by immunodiffusion and IEP techniques. The purified myeloma preparation is non-reactive with antisera to mouse IgA, IgM, IgG1, IgG2a, IgG2b and IgG3.
Application
IgG2a, Lambda from murine myeloma has been used to standardize the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) assay.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Immunoglobulin G (IgG) mainly helps in immune defense. Immunoglobulin G (IgG) participates in hypersensitivity type II and type III reactions. It helps in opsonization, complement fixation and antibody dependent cell mediated cytotoxicity.
Physical form
Solution in 0.02 M Tris buffered saline, pH 8.0, containing 0.02% sodium azide
