ITS Media Supplement

ITS Media Supplement (100X), namely Insulin-Transferrin-Selenium Media Supplement (100X), is a supplement for the basal cell culture media. Addition of ITS Media Supplement (100X) can significantly reduce the amount of fetal bovine serum (FBS) required for many cells. It is often used in serum-free or low-serum cell culture systems. The amount of FBS can be reduced from 10% to 2-4% when this product is supplemented. This product contains optimized concentrations of insulin, saturated transferrin, and selenium, formulated in phenol red-free EBSS (Earle's Balanced Salt Solution). ITS-A Media Supplement and ITS-X Media Supplement are ITS Media Supplement added with Sodium Pyruvate and Ethanolamine, respectively. It can promote the absorption of glucose and amino acids, production of fat, transport of monovalent cations and phosphates, synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids, and cell proliferation.Transferrin is an important carrier of iron ions. Iron is an important trace element in cell culture, but free iron ions are toxic to cells to a certain extent. By forming saturated transferrin (Holo Transferrin), the toxicity of free iron ions, oxygen free radicals and hydrogen peroxide can be reduced.Selenium in sodium selenite is a cofactor of glutathione peroxidase and other important enzymes, and also plays an anti-oxidant role in culture medium.Pyruvate is an important precursor in biosynthesis of amino acids, fatty acids and cholesterol. It can be used in TCA cycle and gluconeogenesis, thus often used as an alternative carbon source, which can also avoid the accumulation of lactate when glucose is used the sole carbon source.Ethanolamine is an important compound that stimulates cell growth and is a precursor for the biosynthesis of phosphoglycerides which plays important roles in the structure and the function of cell membranes and organelles. Ethanolamine also plays an important role in the hybridoma cell culture.This product is free of mycoplasma. A variety of infectious disease indicators such as HIV 1 & 2, Hepatitis B, and HCV, etc. are all negative.This product is cell culture grade, formulated in phenol red-free EBSS. It is sterile and can be directly used for cell culture and other purposes. This product has comparable performance with the similar product from G company.Precautions：Use this product aseptically to avoid microbial contamination.Some cells show slowed growth after direct reduction of serum in culture medium. A gradual reduction of serum is recommended to enable cell domestication.Low-serum culture medium should be supplemented with 2-4% FBS to enable the optimal cell growth. Less serum may be used after cells are adapted. Please refer to relevent literature for the optimal serum concentration required by different cells, or make appropriate adjustments for a particular cell type or culture medium.This product is for R&D only.
