CRITERION&trade MacConkey Agar is recommended for use as a selective and differential medium for the isolation of gram-negative bacilli (including coliform organisms and enteric pathogens), on the basis of lactose fermentation.

The RPI MacConkey agar is mainly used in research facilities and chemical laboratories to conduct wide range of experiments. It is available in sturdy bottle that endures heavy and rigorous usage.

MacConkey Agar is the earliest selective and differential medium for cultivation of enteric microorganisms from a variety of clinical specimens (1, 2). The original medium contains protein, bile salts, sodium chloride and two dyes.

MacConkey broth (Double Strength) w/ Neutral Red is recommended for primary isolation of coliforms from large samples such as water or waste water. Bile salts inhibits the gram-positive bacteria.
