Argentaffin cells or Kultschitzsky cells occur normally in the mucosa of the intestines, from the stomach to the large bowel. Occasionally, they give rise to tumors known as "carcinoid" tumors which have a characteristic yellow color. These tumors are most common in the distal one-third of the appendix where they generally lead to secondary appendicitis.
