Mannitol Selenite broth w/ Brilliant green is recommended for enrichment of Salmonellae from faeces, food- stuffs and other materials. Sodium taurocholate, selenite, brilliant green inhibits gram positive bacteria and other gram negative bacteria. Mannitol is a fermentable carbohydrate and source of carbon. Do not incubate enriched culture longer than 24 hours as the inhibitory effect of selenite is reduced after 6-12 hours incubation.
