Cell Line Origin
Rat Buffalo hepatoma
Cell Line Description
Derived from the Morris hepatoma 7777 (obtained from a male Buffalo strain rat). The original tumour was induced with N-2 fluorenylphthalamic acid. Particularly interesting for oncogeny studies since the cells produce α-fetoprotein (AFP).
Application
Tumourigenicity and oncogeny studies
Culture Medium
Swimm′s S-77 + 4mM Glutamine + 20% Horse Serum (HS) + 5% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS) or EMEM (EBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 20% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
Subculture Routine
Split semi-confluent cultures 1:2 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 1-3x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin; 5% CO2; 37°C. NB: Cells are shed from the monolayer before confluency is achieved.
