Membrane Traffic Inhibitor, A5 is a piperazinyl compound which is cell-permeable, that has been reported to specifically block clathrin adaptor complex AP-1-dependent traffic between endosomes and trans-Golgi network (TGN) in budding yeast. Additionally, Membrane Traffic Inhibitor, A5 has been shown to have little effect against other trafficking pathways involving endosomes and TGN. Also reported to inhibit growth of yeast cells lacking complementary GGA1/2 adaptor proteins, yet not wild-type or AP-1-deficient cells even at increased concentrations such as 300 µM.
