General description
Menthol is an alcohol extracted from various mint oils or prepared synthetically. It exists in two forms: levorotatory (l-menthol), which can be found in natural or synthetic sources, and racemic (dl-menthol).
Application
Menthol USP reference standard suitable for use in specified USP compendial quality tests and assays.
Also used to prepare standard, and standard stock solution during the assay, and impurity analysis by using gas chromatography in conjunction with flame ionization detector according to the given below monographs of United States Pharmacopeia (USP):
- Menthol Lozenges
- Menthol
- Tetracaine and Menthol Ointment
- Benzocaine and Menthol Topical Aerosol
