Biochem/physiol Actions
MPP3 (Membrane protein, palmitoylated 3, MAGUK p55 subfamily member 3) plays an important role in the maintenance of epithelial structure through cell-cell interactions. The N-terminal domain of MPP3 directly binds to the cytoplasmic domain of CADM1 (Cell adhesion molecule 1) and forms a complex, which further connects it to the PI3K (phosphoinositide 3-kinase) for its activation. The activation of PI3K is highly required to identify the actin cytoskeleton and form epithelial cell structure. A study reports that MPP3 in conjugation with TSLC1 (Tumor suppressor in lung cancer 1) shows tumor suppressive property in human lung cancer cells and any change in this interactions might lead to malignancy and tumor growth.
