General description
Member of the natriuretic peptide family that shares structural homology with ANP and plays a role in the regulation of body fluid homeostasis, vascular tone and vascular growth. Inhibits adenylate cyclase activity in a concentration-dependent manner. Stimulates particulate guanylate cyclase activity. Shown to exert neuromodulatory effects independent of guanylate cyclase activation or adenylate cyclase inhibition.
