General description
HumanKine NGF-β is expressed in human 293 cells as a non-glycosylated, non-disulfide bonded 13 kDa homodimer.
NGF-β belongs to the nerve growth factor protein superfamily. It is a key growth factor in target-mediated regulation of peripheral innervation. During development, NGF-β regulates nerve cell death, synaptic connectivity, fiber guidance, and dendritic morphology. The presence of NGF-β in immune cells and endocrine cells as well as in the CNS limbic areas suggests that it may function as an intracellular messenger to regulate the body′s response to stress.
The nerve growth factor β (NGFB) gene is mapped to human chromosome 1p13.2.
Application
Nerve Growth Factor β Human has been used as a neurotrophic agent in luciferase reporter assay using mammalian cells.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Nerve Growth Factor β (NGFB) acts as a key mediator in neuronal and non-neuronal development, differentiation, and survival. Polymorphism of NGFB gene leads to hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathies. Charcot arthropathy and thermal insensitivity are few of the related symptoms. NGFB is known to promote cancer cell proliferation and metastasis. It is associated with lung, breast, prostatic and pancreatic cancers. In animal models, NGFB is observed to prevent cholinergic neuron loss and enhances memory.
Physical form
Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution of 1X PBS
Analysis Note
The specific activity was determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of the proliferation of the human TF-1 cells (human erythroleukemic indicator cell line).
