General description
The single peptide or protein standard is used to calibrate and test matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometers. Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) is synthesized from its precursor pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC). It is released from anterior pituitary gland in response to corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) from hypothalamus.
Application
Peptide calibration standard for MALDI-MS instruments; 1 vial contains 10 nmols.
ProteoMass™ ACTH fragment 18-39 MALDI-MS standard has been used as a peptide calibration standard for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI)-mass spectrometry (MS) instruments.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulates the synthesis and release of glucocorticoids and androgens through cAMP-dependent by a G-protein coupled receptor in adrenal gland. Overproduction of ACTH leads to marked skin pigmentation.
Storage and Stability
Each standard is stored at room temperature and is shipped at ambient temperature. Standard stock solutions can be frozen in aliquots, but should not be subjected to more than 3 freeze-thaw cycles. Standard solutions are recommended for use for no longer than one month after reconstitution.
