Cell Line Origin
Potoroo kidney
Cell Line Description
Derived from kidney of normal adult female Potorous tridactylis in 1962, believed to be the first permanent cell line of marsupial origin to be established. Important because of low number, large size and distinct morphology of chromosomes of this mammalian species.
Application
Chromosome studies
Culture Medium
EMEM (EBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 1mM Sodium Pyruvate (NaP) + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
Subculture Routine
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:2 to 1:3 i.e. seeding at 4-5x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C.
