General description

A quaternary lidocaine derivative, permanently charged, and lipophobic. A powerful blocker of voltage-sensitive Na⁺ conductance when applied intracellularly. Suppresses the generation of Na⁺-dependent spikes from inside the cell membrane, without affecting Ca²⁺ currents or glutamate-activated currents.
