Biochem/physiol Actions
G protein, RhoA/Rho kinase 1 (ROCK1) is a serine/threonine kinase. It plays a vital role in the regulation of cell growth, and invasive and metastatic progression of various types of human cancers. ROCK1 is involved in the regulation of apoptosis or programmed cell death in various cell types. Overexpression of ROCK1 has been observed in various tumors, including glioblastoma, melanoma, osteosarcoma, and hepatocellular carcinoma. This protein is known to enhance actin-myosin contractility by phosphorylating regulatory myosin light chains (MLCs). It also plays a role in cell motility through the modulation of integrin β1-activated focal adhesion kinase (FAK) signaling.
