General description
Sodium deoxycholate is a water-soluble, bile salt and an ionic detergent used as a selective inhibitory agent for bacteriological culture media. It interferes with the growth and incorporation of glucose into various cellular fractions and also inhibits flagellum formation in gram negative bacteria.
Application
Sodium deoxycholate is used in number of bacteriological media for the isolation and classification of gram-negative bacteria from food and the environment.
