Sodium Houttuyfonate is an orally active compound synthesized by combining sodium bisulfite with houttuynia. Sodium Houttuyfonate exhibits antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and cardiovascular protective activities. Sodium Houttuyfonate can be used for the research of myocardial infarction, mastitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.In VitroSodium houttuyfonate (25-100 mM) decreases apoptosis of MLE-15 cells induced by cell stretch (CS) experiment, and inhibits JNK pathway. Sodium houttuyfonate (60  μg/mL, 2 h) attenuates Aβ1-42-induced oxidative stress and cell apoptosis in PC12 cells. Sodium houttuyfonate (60  μg/mL, 2 h) decreases the levels of Aβ1-42-induced IL-6, IL-1β, IL-18, and TNF-α in PC12 cells.
