RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE: Bring thin paraffin sections to water (6 microns or less). Flood sections with Sol. I for 1 minute. Rinse in water. Wash in Sol. II; then flood with Sol. II for 1 - 2 minutes. Decolorize with Sol. III until the purple color no longer runs off (approximately 20 - 30 seconds). Wash in water. Counterstain with Sol. IV or IVB for 30 seconds. Rinse in water. Blot dry and dehydrate rapidly in a mixture of 2 parts aniline and 1 part xylol, or ALLOW TO AIR DRY THOROUGHLY. Clear in 2 changes of xylol and mount.

RESULTS: Gram-positive bacteria, many fungi and fibrin - blue-black to violet. Gram-negative bacteria - red. Cytoplasm - pink.
