General description
Native sphingomyelinase from Staphylococcus species. May be applied exogenously to initiate the sphingomyelin signaling pathway. Has very little activity on phosphatidylcholine.

One unit is defined as the amount of enzyme that will hydrolyze 1 µmol of trinitrophenylaminolauryl (TNPAL)-sphingomyelin per min at 37°C, pH 7.4.
Physical form
In 250 mM phosphate buffer, 50% glycerol, pH 7.5.
Reconstitution
Following initial use, aliquot and refrigerate (4°C).
