(+)-BICUCULLINE (C005B-043912)

General description

A potent allosteric antagonist of vertebrate GABA_A receptors. Blocks GABA_A-induced chloride currents in cultured neurons (IC₅₀ = 740 nM). Shown to increase blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive rats and cause convulsion in experimental animals. Also, increases the amplitude of spontaneous colonic contractions.
