Amiloride is also an epithelial sodium channel protein inhibitor, which inhibits sodium reabsorption without affecting potassium concentrations. Amiloride serves as a non-selective acid-sensing ion channel (ASIC) blocker and a selective inhibitor of uPA (urokinase plasminogen activator). Research shows that amiloride reduces electrical potential across tubular epithelium, inhibits angiogenesis and inhibits capillary morphogenesis completely and reversibly at approximately 130 μM.
