General description

A plant flavonoid that reverses the transformed phenotypes of various ras-transformed cells, apparently due to inhibition of mitogen activated protein (MAP) kinase-associated signal transduction pathways. Treatment of v-H-ras-transformed NIH 3T3 cells with apigenin (12.5 µM) has been shown to induce dephosphorylation of p44^mapk and reduction in MAP kinase activity. Has also been reported to inhibit the proliferation of malignant tumor cells by G₂/M arrest and to induce morphological differentiation.

Induces the reversion of transformed phenotypes of v-H-ras-transformed NIH 3T3 cells at low concentration (12.5 µM). This finding has been attributed to the inhibition of MAP kinase activity. Inhibits the proliferation of malignant tumor cells by G₂/M arrest and induces morphological differentiation.
