B.T.B. Lactose HiVegTM Agar, Modified (Lactose Blue HiVegTM Agar) is recommended for differentiation of lactose fermenting and non fermenting bacteria belonging to Enterobacteriaceae. Recommended addition of 0.28gms/L of metachrome yellow to suppress swarming of Proteus species. This medium is prepared by replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risk. Appearance of powder: Light yellow colored, may have slightly greenish tinge, homogeneous, free flowing powder Gelling: Firm, comparable with 1.3% Agar gel Color and Clarity: Green colored, clear to slightly opalsescent gel forms in petri plates Reaction of 4.05% w/v aqueous solution is pH 7.0 ± 0.2 at 25°C Cultural characteristics observed after an incubation at 35-37°C for 18 - 24 hours
