BHI w/6.5% NaCL, HiVegTM (Brain Heart Infusion w/ 6.5% NaCl, HiVegTM) is recommended for selective cultivation of salt tolerant microorganisms. High concentration of sodium chloride acts as a differential and/or selective agent by interfering with membrane permeability and osmotic and electro kinetic equilibrium in salt intolerant organisms. This medium is prepared by replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risk.
