Cholera HiVeg¢"¢ Medium Base is recommended for selective isolation of Vibrio species from specimens heavily contaminated with Enterobacteriaceae. Addition of Potassium Tellurite and sodium lauryl sulphate makes media selective . Sodium chloride enhances growth of all species. Sodium lauryl sulphate inhibits many contaminating organisms. Potassium tellurite inhibits many gram positive and gram negative organisms. This medium is prepared by replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risk. Appearance of powder: Light yellow colored, may have slightly greenish tinge, homogeneous, free flowing powder Gelling: Firm, comparable with 1.0% Agar gel Color and Clarity: Basal medium forms yellow colored slightly opalescent gel.
