Thermometer continuously monitors bath temperature and displays it digitally on a four line by twenty character back-lit liquid-crystal screen. Temperature may be displayed in °C or °F. Unit is capable of maintaining temperatures of 10 to 100°C within 0.01°C and temperatures of 101 to 150° within 0.03°C or closer. Calibration offset values are entered through keypad and stored in the bath’s memory. Communication ports allow data acquisition and networking through an external computer. Several baths may be networked through a single computer. The bath’s firmware can be updated by downloading from a personal computer. Bath chamber is a cylindrical clear Pyrex® vessel 300 mm (12") in diameter and 300 mm high. A stainless steel baffle coated with white PTFE is located in the center of the bath and provides a convenient backdrop for viewing viscometers placed in the bath. The top cover contains seven round holes 51 mm (2") in diameter for insertion of viscometer holders and two additional holes for thermometers. Twin fluorescent lamps provide glare-free illumination. A built-in cooling coil permits operation at or slightly below, ambient temperature when connected to an external chiller or tap water hookup. All wetted parts are constructed of stainless steel, glass or PTFE. The bath housing is fabricated from heavy aluminum and coated with a corrosion- resistant epoxy finish. The bath cover features a stainless steel top surface, insulating layer and a bottom stainless steel heat reflector. The cover has apertures for seven viscometer tubes and two thermometers. During power-up, the unit performs an automatic self-test of its circuits. A thermistor in the bath senses any over-temperature fault condition and cuts off power to the bath until an operator resets the over-temperature limit circuit. All power from the bath is removed if RTD is disconnected. A liquid-level control prevents bath heating until a safe liquid level is attained. The bath heaters automatically shut off if liquid drops below the minimum safe level.
