Esculin Azide broth is used for selective cultivation and identification of Streptococci. The broth is selective due to presence of bile salts and sodium azide and provides rapid growth of Streptococci. Streptococci hydrolyze esculin to esculetin and dextrose. Esculetin and ferric ammonium citrate forms dark brown to black complex, imparting dark brown color to the broth. Enterococcus faecalis gives esculin positive reaction. It is prepared by replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risk. Application: For Laboratory Chemicals, Analytical Purpose, Biochemical Analysis Appearance of powder: Light yellow colored, may have slightly greenish tinge, homogeneous, free flowing powder Color and Clarity: Amber colored, clear solution having purplish tinge Reaction: Reaction of 3.78% w/v aqueous solution is pH 7.2 ± 0.2 at 25 deg C
