Glucose Azide HiVegTM Broth is used for the enumeration of faecal Streptococci by MPN technique from water, sewage, foods and other materials suspected to be contaminated with sewage. Fecal Streptococcus is a group of bacteria normally present in large numbers in the intestinal tract of warm-blooded animals other than human. They have been used with fecal coliforms to differentiate fecal contamination from humans and from that of other warmblooded animals. They tend to persist longer in the environment than faecal coliforms. This medium is prepared by replacing animal peptones with vegetable defined peptones to avoid BSE/TSE/GMO risk. Appearance of Powder: Light yellow colored, may have slightly greenish tinge, homogeneous, free flowing powder Color and Clarity: Purple colored, clear solution without any precipitate Reaction of 3.03% w/v aqueous solution is pH 6.7 ± 0.2 at 25°C Cultural characteristics observed after an inubation at 35-37°C for 18-24 hours
